2018 Twelve New Experiences

12374

Doing your new year’s resolutions?  Or are you doing your vision board for 2018?  Setting your intention for the year?  Add some fresh experiences to step out of your comfort zone or learn something new.

Experiences are priceless and unforgettable.  Even bad experiences can become a good story (I will have to share the first time I went paddle boarding at some point).  Experiences introduce you to different perspectives; especially, if you travel, but when you are not traveling you should not stop experiencing new things.

This year I decided to think ahead and not just rely on my spontaneity to discover new things.  Don’t get me wrong; spontaneity is a good thing!  This list is only a jump-off point; an inspiration list to make sure that I am not just living day by day.  We all should try something new at least once a month.

1.       Take an Archery Class – I have always wanted to try archery, especially in the last few years after reading 299 Days by Glen Tate.

2.       Go to a Bull Riding Event – Oh how I would love to go back to Spain and see a bullfight, but we sometimes don’t always get what we want.  An American bull riding event should be just as fun and exciting.

3.       Skydive Indoors and a tandem flight – I have been waiting for my son, Ian, to reach the age of 18 to skydive with me. However, I think I need to try it first to make sure that he will like skydiving.   We can do indoor skydiving together.

4.       Learn Glassblowing – Glassblowing is a beautiful process.  Wait until I show you my photo’s from when I take this class.

5.       Snow Tubing – I think I am in denial about my age.  Going down a hill or slope on an intertube… just can’t wait.

6.       Cooking Class – I’ve taken a pasta cooking class so this time I am thinking either French, Asian or maybe even pizza.

7.       Pottery Class – All I have to say is “Ghost” the movie.

8.       Paintball – I don’t want to embarrass my son but can I play also?

9.       Go Kayaking – On our last bike ride before winter, we found this area along the north branch trail in Illinois that you can rent kayaks.  I had to put this on my to-do-list especially after my paddleboard try.

10.   See a burlesque show – I think this is grown and sexy time.

11.   Candle-making class – I love candles.  It would be great to make these and give them as gifts.

12.   Try my hand at painting – I have had no schooling for art, but last year it kept coming up as something I wanted to try. So this year I have to make it happen.

I will share these and other experiences with you throughout the year.  What are some new experiences you have planned for this year?  Comment below and let us know.

  1. I have an informal list of new things I would like to try this year. I’m jealous about the glassblowing. I would love to give that a try, but I haven’t found a place near me where I can do that.

    1. Erin, when you travel this year see if your destination has a place you can try your hand at with glassblowing or maybe a demonstration.

  2. Your post reminded me of how much I love Archery! I have not done any archery for 20+ years, but loved it when I was younger! Good Luck on that one!

Good luck also on the glass blowing. I saw a demonstration of this in Toledo, Ohio at the Glass Museum. It is so beautiful and peaceful juxtaposed with the hot and violent fire. Amazing!

    1. Thanks, Jenny, I am looking forward to doing both even though I’m a little afraid of the archery as people tell me it will hurt my hand.

  3. Literally, everything on this list is something I want to do as well! Great list if I do say so myself.

    1. Thanks, Arielle let me know if you do any of these this year.

  4. #4….we just came home from an anniversary trip in Santa Fe. They have a glass blowing class and I wanted to do it so bad. It requires some planning in order to get in to do it though. I’ll have to go back and make plans ahead of time to get into one of the classes.

    1. I hope you do get a chance to attend a glass blowing class. Let me know.

  5. I love all of these. They are completely different than my new experience list so I loved the different perspective. Cheers to you and your super exciting 2018!

    1. Cheers to you also. I read your experience list so much passion in what you want to accomplish this year. I’m sending you nothing but good vibes!

  6. Yay for New Year ideas!! Thanks for sharing! Burlesque it is, been trying to go for a year!
